Do Not Use This Product If You Have Any of the Following Pre-Existing Medical Conditions
You should not take Tongkat Ali if you have been diagnosed with, or are currently being treated for, any of the following conditions:
1. Hormone-Sensitive Conditions Prostate cancer, testicular cancer, breast cancer, ovarian cancer, uterine cancer, endometriosis, or uterine fibroids. Tongkat Ali may stimulate the production of testosterone and other androgens, which can exacerbate hormone-sensitive conditions.
2.
Cardiovascular Conditions Heart disease, hypertension (high blood pressure), arrhythmia, history of stroke, or peripheral artery disease. This supplement may raise blood pressure and heart rate, posing a serious risk to individuals with existing cardiovascular
vulnerabilities.
3. Liver or Kidney Disease Any form of hepatic impairment, chronic kidney disease, or renal insufficiency. Herbal supplements are metabolised by the liver and excreted via the kidneys; impaired organ function may lead to dangerous accumulation of active compounds.
4. Diabetes or Blood Sugar Disorders Tongkat Ali may alter blood glucose levels and insulin sensitivity. Individuals with type 1 or type 2 diabetes, hypoglycaemia, or those on glucose-regulating medication must not use this product without prior medical consultation.
5. Immune System Disorders Autoimmune conditions including rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, multiple sclerosis, Crohn's disease, or any condition requiring immunosuppressant therapy. Tongkat Ali may stimulate
immune activity, potentially worsening autoimmune responses.
6. Sleep Disorders Insomnia, severe anxiety disorders, or conditions requiring sedative or anxiolytic medication.
7. Psychiatric or Neurological Conditions Bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, or any condition managed with antipsychotic, mood-stabilising, or neurological medication. The hormonal and stimulant effects of Tongkat Ali may destabilise mood regulation.
8. Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH) Men with an enlarged prostate should avoid use, as androgenic stimulation may aggravate symptoms or accelerate progression.
Do Not Use This Product If You Are
- Pregnant or planning to become pregnant (women)
- Breastfeeding or chestfeeding
- Under 18 years of age
- Awaiting surgery or in post-operative recovery (discontinue at least two weeks before any planned surgical procedure)
Possible Negative Interactions with Medications
Tongkat Ali may interact adversely with the following classes of medication. If you are currently taking any of the medicines listed below, do not use take Tongkat Ali or use this product without first seeking advice from your GP, pharmacist, or a qualified healthcare
professional.
1. Hormone-Based Therapies Testosterone replacement
therapy (TRT), oestrogen therapy, hormone replacement therapy (HRT), oral contraceptives, and anti-androgens such as finasteride or bicalutamide.
Concurrent use, or consuming at high dose may produce unpredictable hormonal fluctuations and render hormone therapies less effective or dangerously potentiated.
2. Antihypertensive Medications ACE inhibitors (e.g. ramipril, lisinopril), beta-blockers (e.g. atenolol, bisoprolol), calcium channel blockers (e.g. amlodipine), and angiotensin receptor blockers (ARBs). Tongkat Ali may counteract the blood pressure-lowering effects of these medicines or cause erratic blood pressure changes.
3. Antidiabetic and Hypoglycaemic Agents Metformin, insulin, sulfonylureas (e.g. gliclazide), and GLP-1 receptor agonists (e.g. semaglutide). Combined use may cause unpredictable fluctuations in blood glucose levels, including potentially dangerous hypoglycaemic episodes.
4. Immunosuppressants Ciclosporin, tacrolimus, methotrexate, azathioprine, and corticosteroids. Tongkat Ali's potential immune-stimulating effects may directly oppose the action of these medications, placing individuals at risk of organ rejection or disease flare.
5. Blood Thinners and Anticoagulants Warfarin, apixaban (Eliquis), rivaroxaban (Xarelto), dabigatran (Pradaxa), clopidogrel, and low-dose aspirin regimens. There is a potential risk of altered bleeding times or interaction with anticoagulant pathways.
6. Sedatives, Anxiolytics, and CNS Depressants Benzodiazepines (e.g. diazepam, lorazepam), z-drugs (e.g. zopiclone), and other sleep aids. The stimulant nature of Tongkat Ali may reduce the effectiveness of these medications.
7. Antidepressants and Antipsychotics SSRIs (e.g.sertraline, fluoxetine), SNRIs (e.g. venlafaxine), MAOIs, tricyclic
antidepressants, lithium, and antipsychotic agents (e.g. olanzapine,
quetiapine). Combined use may influence serotonergic and dopaminergic pathways and alter mood stability unpredictably.
8. Cytochrome P450-Metabolised Drugs Tongkat Ali may inhibit or induce certain liver enzymes involved in drug metabolism (particularly the CYP450 pathway), potentially affecting the blood plasma levels of a wide range of prescribed medications. Consult your pharmacist if you are taking any long-term prescription medication.
